I’ll be honest, after finishing Just for One Night, I kind of started missing George and Lucy, so I came up with this little idea for a blog post.
Of course it’s also an excuse to gratuitously post links to songs on YouTube.
I’ve you’ve not read it yet, get yours now on Amazon US, UK (and others). UPDATE 2019: This short story has been unpublished and been reworked into the novella, One Night Stand.
Dear Lucy,
From what I could tell, the call you took yesterday morning shook you up quite a bit. I understand you’ll need time to figure out how to deal with all that extra work now. Just to let you know, I was serious; if there’s anything I can do to help…
Seeing as you’re undoubtedly very busy right now, I didn’t want to intrude so I chose to email rather than call. But know that I’ve been thinking about you all day yesterday and today.
There is no logical explanation for this, but the connection I felt with you is very real, special. This is new territory for me, I don’t have the best of track records when it comes to relationships. All I know is, I do want more; I want to make this work. If I fuck up in some way (which I probably will, if the past is anything to go by), I hope you’ll tell me and give me a chance to fix it.
You said you want to know everything about me; well I’m not sure there’s that much to know. But maybe in a small way this email will help.
Music plays an important part in my life, how it allows for escapism in just about any situation. It was obvious – when I found you sitting with your eyes closed, lost in thought after having borrowed my iPod – that you function in the same way. Perhaps music is the best medium of communication for us and I also hope this little soundtrack can help relieve some of the stress you must be feeling now.
I don’t know if you listen to music while working, otherwise keep this for whenever you’re taking a little break; I’ve put together a few songs that hold special meaning to me. Most of them have some kind of back story or they resonate with my moods at times, some I turn to again and again because they cheer me up. I’ll let the music do the talking for now…
Hope to see you soon,
George
